Hi girls, the stupas are breathtaking, I just love them. The pictures of the monks during their procession is so neat. And the marigold flowers are just lovely on the bus. I am so glad you thought to save some petals for a memory book, very special. I talked more about these pictures in my long comment from your most recent entry, so look there for more of my thoughts:)
When you called this morning, your mother and I were sitting at the computer reading your blog, me with my coffee and mom with hot tea. I don't know about the other parents but with the passing of each day the empty spot in my heart from missing you grows more and more. Seeing the pictures of you and the places you are experiencing and then reading about your adventures are just beautiful. I am absolutely amazed at how you both handle each obstacle as you are faced with it. The insect experience was like something out of a movie. I have been in many places and situations during my life in work and play that the majority of people would not been able to handle the likes of bee swarms, snake dens, spiders, scorpians, and leeches. From your wonderful descriptive writing I can just see everyone performing a new style of dance. I think after the shock it would be funny to recall the ordeal and wonder what the swatting, dancing, jumping, and arm waving looked like if caught on film. During your visit to see the monks and walking around bare foot on the hot surface it probably seemed equal to walking on hot coals or a stove burner. There is no doubt I would have been doing a hop, skip, and jump to every shady spot I could find. Yes, your dad is a big softy at times and after growing up in a military family and having my dad serve two tours in Vietnam I was pretty emotional when you called this morning. While I was looking at the photo you took of the marker for the unknown soldier it made me think about your upcoming visit to Vietnam and your grandfather Lundy who would have been 79 this month. I was so glad you called because I know you will be visiting a memorial in Vietnam and hoping you would place flowers there in honor of your grandfather. That war, like so many others was so meaningless. For a little upbeat change I was thinking Christmas is just around the corner and I thought maybe since you both have become accustomed to being around large spiders that I may purchase the biggest spider I can find at the pet store. What do you think? I love you.
This morning was probably the best morning I have had in a long time between starting the day off with your blog and then to have the phone ring. I knew it would be you right away. You sounded so unbelievably happy that I was infected with your enthusiasm and energy the rest of the day. It was another memorable experience that had us laughing one minute and somber the next. There are two important items I would like to mention here. Tonight,Saturday the 29th, we will set our clocks back one hour so we will be 11 and a half hours behind you and tomorrow for us which may be today for you, Sunday the 30th, will be five years since PopPop passed away. Not that I want to bring up unhappy things but I thought you might want to be reminded in case you forgot. I am going to send a short email now so be sure to check for it. Love you. Mom
Check for Sandy's comment in the next blog "It was the best...... Just a quick posting here to tell you we were quite upset last night about information on the news. There was a terrorist attack in the markets of New Delhi killing over 60 people and there was also a train accident in southern India. The train derailed entering the river and killing I think over a hundred people. Needless to say we are so grateful that you and all SAS students are no longer in the area and equally shocked to think just a few days ago you were there. I know you don't get much news there so wanted to inform you in case you heard rumors. We love you
