There and Back Again: A Tale of Two Twins

You guessed it, we’re back and so glad to be. We had a thrilling three days exploring Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and unlike Pre-Columbian sites you can climb them all. So one million or so thin, steep steps later we’re back and cannot wait to share our tale. But we are tired and sore so it will have to wait for another day or two, especially because we just found out that three minutes are all that remain of our time. By Thursday it will be here for your enjoyment so stay tuned. We returned at nine thirty tonight, which is nine thirty in the morning at home.

Glad to see you are back safe and sound. Rest up and get some more energy for the next marathon. I get more excited with each passing day knowing that, yes in less than a month we can hug! Hug!! HUG!!! some more. Mom and I are going to vote this evening and I thought just before going into the both to cast my vote I will turn around and ask, Is This All There Is To Choose From? Do you think I'll get a laugh or two? We will go out with Nancy and Doug afterwords to celebrate. Your grandmother sends her love and has been so amazed with your adventures and glad you are having such a wonderful time. I told her you have met some wonderful people on the ship and become good friends. I will post more later I have to get busy and make dinner. Love you both. Keep Smilimg!! Hi Ashley! Bye Ashley! I love you Ashley! Uncle Joey. Love all of you! More Later.

Hi girls!!! I have not read any of the latest entries. I was visiting Shan in VA all weekend, which was just so lovely. It was 78 degrees on Sunday (now that's fabulous November weather!!) I want to be able to read thru the chapters when I can put forth my undivided attention. I may be able to read some tonight, but maybe not until later this week. I had an embryology exam today...very challenging, but I think I did well. Today is Election Day. I'm anxiously awaiting the outcome, and whatever it may be, I will be proud. I might be going home to celebrate tonight after the election, so it looks like I might see you Joe:) Hope everything is going well with you girls, can't wait to learn about Cambodia. Talk to you soon!! Love Ash:) PS: Shannon got her Internet fixed this weekend. It has been disconnected for weeks and she was finally able to be at the house when the Internet tech was able to come by. It is functioning now YAY, so lookout for a comment from her soon! Love and hugs. Bye.

Hi Girls!
I'm sorry it's been so very long since I've written you. Today I sat down at the computer for about 2 1/2 hours and caught up on your adventures! WOW!
I do want you to know that we received another postcard! Yeah! It was from Mauritius and arrived the day after my birthday, which was Oct. 21st! What a marvelous present!
Heather - I was so intrigued by the descriptions of all the Stupas and in awe of the beautiful photographs, that I did some research on the web....Did you know that there are directions on the internet for building a stupa?!
So... I thought since your parents have NOTHING to do while you're gone, that I would get your Dad to start building one for your return!! I do believe you would be the first one in Aberdeen to have your own personal stupa! Tee Hee!
I loved the pictures that you had of the monks filing in for their final meal of the day. I wonder what time they have their first meal? It seems strange that their last one would be around noon. It's hard to imagine starting that lifestyle at the tender age of 7. That is just worlds apart from the typical American 7-year old.
I was also amazed that you were able to witness parts of a wedding and a funeral during your visit to Viet Nam. I would think that both celebrations gave you an insight to their culture that you wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. Of course, I imagine it was a thrill for those folks involved to see you, too.
I absolutely loved your Three Hour Tour song! I sang along quite lustily! You are such clever girls! I must admit that as I read about all of the places you are going, I know that I am butchering the pronunciations in my mind! It's a good thing that you'll be home soon and can straighten me out about the names of all these cities!
I really enjoy all of the photos that you've been posting as well.
You both look amazing in the beautiful silk outfits that you bought! Perhaps you'll wear them when we go out to eat after making candy! Ha Ha!
Speaking of candy making--I was looking through a Wolfgang Chocolates catalog and they had a new item. It was potato chips drizzled with milk chocolate. I guess that's similar to drizzling pretzels, but I never would have thought to try it on potato chips! I'll probably order some and see how they taste! Of course, if you had only grabbed up some of those grasshoppers and other bugs, we could have tried lots of new things this December. Alas, it's too late so I'll guess we'll have to stick with the tried and true!
Mr. Rick and I just had a lovely weekend in Front Royal, VA. We stayed at a B&B with our friends, John and Charlene, from Elkton. We took a drive on the Skyline Drive and visited the Skyline Caverns, enjoyed shopping in Luray, Front Royal and other small cities in the area. It was also pleasantly warm, just like Ashley reported from Shannon's place! The leaves were at peak in many of the areas and were just breathtaking! We had delicious breakfasts in the Inn... Eggs Benedict on Sat. and Pumpkin Pancakes on Sunday. M'm M'm good!
And, of course, we ate out for lunch and dinner! What a shame! But, now, it's back to the real world. Granola bar and yogurt for breakfast and whatever I feel like cooking for dinner! We do love our adventures, but it truly is a good thing to come home, too! I imagine there are times when that is what you want more than anything! Or, perhaps, what you want more than anything is to have C & J join you wherever you are! Well, since that won't happen for another month, I thank you again for giving us a peephole into your grand adventure!
I think about you often and continue to pray for your safe return. You are missed....
Love,
Miss Nan

I can't tell you how disappointed we our about missing your phone call at 9:30 our time Tuesday night. We were out which is quite unusual. It certainly was not what one would call a celebration. Uncle Doug did not win the election. But we went to Grumpy's afterwards as a show of support with about eight others and returned home about 11:15. I think Doug is upset and rightfully so but he seems to be dealing with the situation in a dignified manner. Please call again whenever you want, whatever time of day or night because we are anxious to hear your voices. Again so disappointed to have missed you so please ET phone home again. Love Mom and Dad

What fun to talk to you for an hour. It was the first time I felt we were not rushed to get in all the news. It is around 7PM and we are waiting for Survivor to come on. So that means it is around 7AM on Friday morning and you are getting ready for the day. I know you arrive in Hong Kong on Saturday so you are busy with preport preparations. Matt Lauer on the Today show is doing his segment "Where In The World Is Matt Lauer." He has been to Easter Island, the Panama Canal, Austria and this morning he was in Shanghai, China. It made me think of you and all the things you will see in China. I watched a man pour tea into a cup over his shoulder with a pot that had about a 36 inch spout. When Matt tried it he got tea everywhere. It was very funny. One of the gifts he will bring back to Ann Curry were these cute shoes with embroidery on the sides and tassels on the front. Katie got an Empress' gown.Did you remember that Bejing will host the 2008 Winter Olympics? I think you will like China alot. We were going to go shopping today(Dad is off for Veteran's Day)but had to change our plans because an item we were going to pick up for the kitchen was not able to be picked up until Saturday at 3 o'clock. So we worked in the kitchen today and will head out early Saturday for shopping. Then in the evening we are going out with Sandy and Tim to Du Claw. And on Sunday we will be back to a full day of work in the kitchen again. All the commercials on TV are about the Christmas holidays already. It just doesn't seem like Christmas could be that close. And alot of coming attractions fot Harry Potter. I am now reading the fourth story so I can be ready for the movie. We love you. Mom
